Traveling Toward Fire

A Premature FI Experiment

El Miro Abandoned Hotel, Mansion, Or Something

Travel Log: Day 31 (7/28), Jaco Costa Rica

We didn’t leave the condo complex today, except for JC going for a walk. JC took the kids to the pool a couple of times, and I worked out while they were gone. I was really struggling, I think because it was leg day and I’m still sore from running as well as getting over a sunburn. JC and I were both feeling off all day, and we think we narrowed it down to boredom. We decided some screen watching would fix that. The girls watched a show and BC and I watched Trent The Traveler.

Travel Log: Day 32 (7/29), Jaco Costa Rica

Today the sun was back, so we went to the beach. We walked toward the stream that feeds into the ocean, and it was slow and low enough that we decided to cross. The beach it gave us access to was super cool. It had lots of large rocks where tide pools formed. It was loaded with small fish, crabs, and some spiders. BC had a great time looking for creatures. It would be a nice place to spend a chunk of the day sometime. We left after about 30 minutes not knowing how that stream swells or if we might get stranded. The stream pushed us more intensely when crossing back, so we made the right decision

We went back to the condo for lunch and spent the rest of the day hanging out there. We made a trip to the pool after dark. BC and AC played together in the pool, and then BC stayed about 30 minutes longer swimming by himself. He’s becoming a good swimmer.

Travel Log: Day 33 (7/30), Jaco Costa Rica

After we got up and ready, we headed to the trailhead for El Miro on the south side of Jaco. We took an Uber there for $4 with tip. El Miro is an abandoned hotel or mansion, where the construction was started but never finished. It is popular because of it’s very dramatic view of Jaco beach, and also because of its spray paint artwork. There is plenty of just crappy spray painting as well though. The hike up was not strenuous, long or difficult. We saw some monkeys after starting up the trail which was about the extent of the wildlife viewing. The view from the viewpoint was as good as expected. After taking some pictures we started heading back.

We walked all the way back to the condo and I think the shining sun plus walking at a good pace wiped all of us out. We made a stop by the gym I’m thinking of going to, and also by the supplement store where I got some creatine. The store was small but nice and loaded with everything I would ever want including whey isolate which I didn’t get. It just has too many servings or costs too much for smaller amounts. The lady running the store was very helpful and thankfully spoke great english. She threw in a sample of their single serving proteins.

We were all sort of dead and out of it after we got back. Duolingo felt like a chore. JC and I decided to spice things up and have happy hour while the kids did a screen of their choice. We also walked to the beach to see the sunset.
