Travel Log: Day 24 (7/21), Costa Rica
As we wind down our time here in La Fortuna, our interest in doing any tourist activities in the area has ended. The main activity of the day was a family workout. Everyone did my workout routine which was sort of fun to get some feedback on what others think. I was glad they all found it to be a real workout and I haven’t been fooling myself the past several years. We also tried to play volleyball but the court had a mud pit in part of the prime playing area. JC planned the meals such that we’re just about out of food, so we ate around that.
Tomorrow we’re on to Jaco which we’re all excited for. It will be nice having a pool and a beach. AC, BC, and I have enjoyed butchering the name of Jaco (correctly pronounced Ha-Coe); seeing how many stupid ways we can pronounce it.
Travel Log: Day 25 (7/22), Costa Rica
Shuttle Ride
Today we packed up our stuff and boarded the shuttle to Jaco. We are making the discovery that these motion sickness patches may not work very well. The only person who didn’t get motion sick at all was BC, which was great because he’s usually hit the hardest. AC took the brunt of this one, puking twice on the trip. She was amazingly clean, quiet and graceful as she did it. JC and I were both feeling mid-level sick. Our driver was a pro with the puking, in general, and in helping us navigate the front gate of our new condo. We had to sign some agreement, and even though our driver didn’t speak english he was still very helpful because it felt like we had someone on our side. I had to use AI (Gemini) to figure out what the form said and how to sign it.
Jaco
Our new condo is nice in different ways than our La Fortuna house, but worse in other ways as well. The kitchen is better, as well as the supplied utensils. The washer and dryer appear to be better in that they are more of what we are used to. Hopefully it requires no babysitting. The sleeping areas here are better, but the beds are worse (too soft). The dining table here is nice as we can all eat together, and the living room couch is much better here. We also have the perk of a nice strip club right across the street (see post image) which we can see out our window. JC objected when I said we should go once, but I think I’ll wear her down. The Fortuna house was just more unique though and really became home.
We walked to a nearby grocery store which made us realize how seedy and grimy Jaco is. Every adult male was checking out 13 year old AC. There were a lot of them too as I guess the bus system is alive and well here. The grocery store had virtually no fresh produce but we got enough for right now. We decided to Uber home so AC didn’t have to walk the maze of creeps. The next grocery run will be to a much farther and much nicer store that appears to be something like a super walmart.
