An extremely boring and unproductive week unfolded with most of our household sick. There is literally nothing interesting to point out, and this isn’t worth reading.

FIRE: Day 64 (8/31)

Gym, Spanish, Tech

The bulk of today was spent looking into a 2018 Nissan Leaf we are thinking of buying. It’s only $9K, single owner in CO, likely L2 charged mostly, and still has 87% battery health and about 130 mile range. It would have been perfect, but after talking to the dealership and thinking about a time to go test drive it, someone put a deposit on it. The search continues.

FIRE: Day 65 (9/1)

BC left for outdoor ed today, which is where the entire 6th grade goes to a YMCA camp. They stay for two nights and do fun stuff like archery, rock wall climbing, and kayaking.

I was really busy today with tech stuff. Primarily that was documenting a code review of the yesalittle.com React app. It’s the first time I had reviewed the code in depth, and it was impressively clean and efficient.

FIRE: Day 66 (9/2)

I woke up sick again today with a runny nose and a scratchy throat. It’s almost like I paused the sickness Wednesday last week and resumed it today. If I were physically capable of doing that, I would have chosen to do so. I had lunch with my old coworkers last Wednesday and then my fantasy draft over the weekend. It worked out perfectly.

I mowed the lawn today and picked up the pinecones that were accumulating. My plan was to then fertilize with weed n feed, but I saved that for tomorrow.

The rest of the day I lounged around and did nothing productive.

FIRE: Day 67 (9/3)

I’m sick and didn’t accomplish much. In the afternoon I took a nap. The only semi-productive thing I did was continue analyzing and crunching numbers on this 2024 Leaf we’re looking at. The net cost with all things considered is a $59/month reduction in our 4% FIRE withdrawal. So what it boils down to is do we want to spend $59/month to not use gas locally, and to always have another vehicle available when one of them is in use. I think the answer is yes, particularly with AC driving soon.

FIRE: Day 68 (9/4)

Today I am still sick and didn’t accomplish much. I did a good amount of DuoLingo, and spent more time looking at cars.

AC went to the high school football game, and I watched it online.

FIRE: Day 69 (9/5)

I slept really terribly last night. I couldn’t stop coughing and never really got into a long stretch of sleep. Despite that, I was feeling slightly better today. I went to the park a couple times with BC to fly his new RC plane.

We had FAC tonight since AC was at the football game last night. It was her movie pick and she chose The Fifth Wave.

FIRE: Day 70 (9/6)

As we start to plan for buying a second car, it has me thinking about whether the Crosstrek can really do the things I need it to do. On paper the Crosstrek was a great plan. It’s a good everyday car, and just capable enough off road that I could go to the spots I camp and hunt. That’s all just theory though, and I need to start testing some of those assumptions.

I packed the Crosstrek with what I usually take hunting, and to my surprise it all fit. I can’t see out the rearview mirror very well, but it will work fine. The next thing I need to do is take it on the worst roads of any spot that we go. I have fewer doubts about its off road capabilities than its cargo space.

I was pretty wiped out after loading and unloading the Crosstrek. The rest of the day I didn’t do much. I helped BC work through playing Fortnite on his Chromebook.
