Travel Log: Day 27 (7/24), Jaco Costa Rica
We went to the pool this morning and only stayed for about an hour. After that we had lunch and just did stuff around the condo. Around 4:30 we went to the beach to watch the sunset and the kids got in the ocean again. BC had a lot of fun building castles and trying to protect them from the waves. The sunset was pretty good but I think we’ll see better ones. My sunburn is still pretty red and hurts more than yesterday.
Travel Log: Day 28 (7/25), Jaco Costa Rica
I slept good last night, scored an 84. That was great considering I was sleeping with a sunburn at what I assume is at its most painful. Continued working on an analysis and blog post focused on whether we are at FIRE. That took me most of the morning. After that I did Duolingo and then helped BC try to figure out why his Microsoft account won’t log in on the switch Minecraft. FAC followed, and it felt like the most traditional FAC since we have been in Costa Rica. The setup here is just very home-like.
Travel Log: Day 29 (7/26), Jaco Costa Rica
The house continues to grow on us, feeling very much like home now. JC and I went running this morning. Last night I had mapped out what I thought might work for a route, and it turned out to be pretty good. We headed out away from the town toward a highway type of road and made a loop back through town to the beach. The scenery was cool; a mix of lush vegetation and even abandoned buildings that are decaying and rusting in a visually pleasing way. We ran at a slightly slower than normal pace, but not a surprise since we haven’t run in several weeks now. Despite having to run on the road with traffic going by, it felt safe. I think we’re just getting used to that being the way it is here.
After the run we had coffee, ate breakfast, and got ready for the day. We started off at the beach. It was pretty busy, I guess with weekend tourists. The lifeguard patrol was really in everyone’s business which was a change from our past two trips. This family from Europe (I think) twice had the siren blown at them and were told to move closer to shore. The first time they flat out told them not to swim in the area that they were in and that we were about to go in. Maybe they were seeing something not obvious to us (e.g. rip currents).
In the afternoon thunderstorms rolled in and we just had a relaxed day around the house. BC bought and installed Minecraft for the chromebook so I helped him install that.
We intended to find and eat pizza for dinner, but decided not to venture out in the storm. Instead JC whipped up our new favorite, rice and bean tacos.
To end the night I watched Maze Runner 3 with AC. It was good but way to long.
