Travel Log: Day 34 (7/31), Jaco Costa Rica
JC hit another breaking point with screens and wanted a no screen day. I’m always game for those, so we went ahead and did it. The kids, mostly BC maybe, act put out by this. In reality they come to life and thrive on it. I don’t think BC’s brain is matured enough to make the connection between his elevated mood and the lack of electronics. My brain isn’t even developed enough for that sometimes. When I’m in a good mood it’s easy to think adding a screen on top of it would be even better. In reality it’s a mood crasher.
We went to the beach and mostly just walked around. I think AC has a future in stand-up comedy. She turned this interaction between her and JC into a stand-up set that was cracking me up. She was asking to go home and couldn’t get a direct answer from JC.
I rounded out the day by taking a nap and joining the rest of the family at the pool for a bit. I also jotted down some ideas (on paper) about the impacts an AGI robot would have on life.
Travel Log: Day 35 (8/1), Jaco Costa Rica
The day was pretty busy with several activities. The budget was the first thing on the agenda. The numbers were pretty good overall despite high groceries ($1029). The withdrawal rate was 4.24%.
Next up was a grocery run where we came away with a pretty large haul totaling about $130. I of course ran into Benny over there since he seems to be everywhere. He just quickly mentioned the same crap he was already pitching (horses, tours, etc). JC looked appalled when he tried to hug her. I on the other hand lean into that shit. I’m probably going to start squeezing him uncomfortably tighter each time.
Upon returning AC and I did a chest/tris workout. I felt like I was dying on round 6 of 9. Meanwhile AC was dancing and singing. It was a depressing display of my age vs 13.
The final task before FAC commenced was to cut my hair. I’m letting the top grow because AC thinks it will be amusing to see what happens. Seems good from a sun protection standpoint as well.
JC and I went to the pool for a bit during happy hour. We ran into a couple there who I assumed were American (because they were black). They turned out to be Costa Rican, living in the San Jose area. He was playing some classic American hits which was fun.
Travel Log: Day 36 (8/2), Jaco Costa Rica
JC and I ran this morning and it went much better than last week. With a flat course and maximum sea-level air we ran a really good time (for us).
We went to the beach and just walked around. BC did his usual thing of making things with sticks and coconuts.
After that we were just around the condo. JC and BC made a trip to the pool.
Travel Log: Day 37 (8/3), Jaco Costa Rica
We went to the beach today and did our common routine of walking for a while and then stopping so BC could build stuff. JC created her signature turtle in the sand.

In the afternoon BC and JC walked to the store to get a few things while AC and I lounged around the condo. We decided to eat dinner at “Pizzeria Rioasis” on a tip from our airbnb host. It was amazing in every way and such a redemption after our latest soda experience. We are forming a whiplash pattern here where we eat somewhere terrible followed by somewhere great.
