Traveling Toward Fire

A Premature FI Experiment

Bridges To Normal Days

Travel Log: Day 78 (9/13), Tokyo Japan

JC and I ran like usual on Saturday. My back is still feeling ok so I’m hoping to find that I’m clear of the major tweak I had at Costa Rica. I’d like to chalk that up to a ridiculously soft bed.

Around the middle of the day JC and I went walking around a bit looking for things happening related to a festival in the area. We don’t know much about it other than they carry these heavy shrines around to move a deity from one temple to another. We did catch a couple of these being carried around, but we didn’t watch for long.

In the evening JC and I finished the show we were watching on Netflix called Untamed. We then planned on going to Shibuya scramble crossing to take it in at night. The train system was massively delayed for some reason so we decided not to mess with that. Going on a week night should be better.

We all slept in today, with even JC and I not getting out of bed until after 8am. Already having breakfast that we bought previously, we did our coffee and breakfast routine. We went to Lawson for lunch, and took some walks. We were growing tired of the festival that was still ongoing today. It just kept getting in the way of where we wanted to walk. There were large crowds around the shrine which spanned the entire sidewalks and street.

I forced the kids to do what I call “observing the power of the chi”. It essentially means sitting with your thoughts and nothing else for a period of time. They each did an hour, as did I. I typically get an hour of that per day anyway here and there, but I did a full additional consecutive hour. Also fit in an hour of Duolingo as well, and got in some pushups and core work. I desperately want my old workout routine back.

For dinner we mixed things up and went to 7-11. It’s really just more of the same compared to Lawson. At this point we’ve hit enough restaurants and convenience stores that we aren’t going to be blown away by anything new.

New normal pattern again with school, elective after lunch. We had Lawson lunch and pizza place dinner, and I did nothing in between. On the way to dinner, the cook at the pizza place was running somewhere across the street and he recognized us and waved. Pizza was great again, and the cook chatted just a bit with us asking how long we were around.

I didn’t even have a thousand steps in the day, so I went on a long walk after dinner to get to 10K. JC and BC joined and we saw some real pretty night bridges along the way.
