Traveling Toward Fire

A Premature FI Experiment

Final Days In Jaco Costa Rica

Travel Log: Day 49 (8/15), Jaco Costa Rica

Today we wrapped up the first week of homeschool. BC passed his vocab and spelling tests. We also did some fun stuff for astrophysics, learning about star deaths. We went to the pool in the afternoon and FAC followed.

Travel Log: Day 50 (8/16), Jaco Costa Rica

With the first week of school complete, this was the most Saturday-like Saturday we’ve had in a while. We didn’t do much of anything. I cut my hair, did some DuoLingo, and did some crossing and dotting on our upcoming Japan travel. JC and I watched The Hangover tonight, a classic.

Travel Log: Day 51 (8/17), Jaco Costa Rica

We were all feeling restless today. BC wanted to do anything and everything, and ended up playing outside for several hours. I think JC and I were dealing with the usual post-drinking let down. Alcohol is pure happiness debt; borrowing tomorrow’s happiness to use now. Paying that back is always an empty experience. We watched some Japan videos as well to pass the time. I’m getting nervous, hoping we have our shit together to navigate Tokyo. I spent a lot of time looking at Osaka Airbnbs as well.

Travel Log: Day 52 (8/18), Jaco Costa Rica

Today is JC’s birthday, so we went out to our favorite pizza place in Jaco for a third time. We also made a trip to the beach and walked quite a bit there.

We decided to do school today just to bank one more day that we can use to not do school another time when we have something interesting going on.

Tonight will be our final night in Jaco. Last night I was having some sleepless anxious thoughts about Japan, the travel logistics, and our complete lack of knowing the language. I’m going to try to learn some emergency phrases over the next couple of days. Part of my worries were around getting to Tokyo during rush hour. JC pointed out that we arrive Saturday instead of Friday like I thought. That at least takes that part off my worry list.
