Travel Log: Day 20 (7/17), Costa Rica
The police were being less oppressive to the Uber drivers today, and we successfully made it to the hot springs. We paid something like $53 total for all four of us plus a locker rental. We paid around $10 for Ubers, including a larger tip on the return ride because I felt bad for getting the guy’s seats wet. It was a fair price and in line with the skid row vibes we got from these hot springs. They were fine, but everything was a little off which makes a lower price appropriate.
The safety standards seemed to be non-existent. The slides are fast, the sides are low, and the pool entry is a short runway. At a relatively lean 180 pounds the physics module in my brain told me not to go down the slides. Even some of the larger kids were gaining enough speed to skip through most of the landing pool. Also BC came out of the slides with red welts on each of his vertebrae. And while not a safety issue, the ground through the entire facility would rip bare feet to shreds in a matter of hours.
The water in most of the pools was just warm, but we did find one pretty nice pool with a waterfall and swim up bar that was warmer. AC was feeling sick today, and I think had she not been we would have downed some drinks there and had a pretty good time.
The price to enjoyment was pretty good overall, but we wouldn’t go back. Nor would we go to a different hot springs. There’s only so much you can do at any hot springs, and so much relaxing our personalities can take.
In the afternoon and evening we had an impromptu happy hour and video games. I think we were all restless with the hot springs not providing the expected stimulation.
