Traveling Toward Fire

A Premature FI Experiment

Mangilao Thursday Night Market & Halloween At The Mall

Travel Log: Day 125 (10/30), Guam

After a regular school day, we went for a walk around the premium outlets. This is a small mall that you can walk into that has high end stores like Gucci, Prada, etc. I think we were pretty out of place in our normal cheap attire, and the staff watched JC and BC like a hawk when BC was touching the $95 wallets in a front display.

JC and I are both losing our minds a little bit with our current situation. We think it’s because of the dynamic shift with my mom being here. It’s nothing about her, and she’s actually a great houseguest as far as that goes. No matter who is here, when someone outside of our four is around it throws everything off and there’s mental energy spent on things that are normally automatic. We have to consider her when going for walks, inviting but not pressuring. Sometimes we want to go by ourselves and that’s hard to navigate. Same thing around meals, activities, and everything else. JC and I both went on separate solo walks because that’s easier and we honestly all need to get away from each other. My grandma used to say that company is like fish, it starts to stink after three days.

In the evening we ventured out to the Mangilao Thursday Night Market. We parked in a church parking lot right by the market not knowing if that was allowed. It turned out we wouldn’t be there long enough for it to matter probably. The market is small, just a large tent on one side with some vendors selling things. Across a small impromptu alleyway (I guess you would call it) there was food. AC mom and I ate smash burgers which were really good. JC and BC ate some rice and kabob. We all struggled to fight off flies which were aggressively trying to get our food. It honestly seemed like the flies were mad at us for eating the food and were kamikaze’ing into our heads in retaliation. I’m probably just anthropomorphizing though.

Travel Log: Day 126 (10/31), Guam

Today is a busy day for us typically because it’s both Halloween and BC’s birthday. It was a little more casual today because we didn’t have school, friends, etc in the mix. BC opened his gifts in the morning, which primarily consisted of cash since we can’t carry things with us this year. He pulled in a whopping $225 which AC was very jealous of, having bottomed out her spendable money just days earlier. After that we went to the beach, came back and had lunch at the condo (BC’s request), and went to K-Mart for last minute costume supplies.

Next we went trick or treating at the mall. We ate at the food court and then watched kids dancing to the the DJ’s good mix of songs. AC and BC trick or treated the stores which required standing in line and following the crowd. They came away with not a ton of candy, and the candy was kind of bogus for their tastes (not much chocolate). It was a fun new experience though.

We came home and the kids and mom watched a movie while JC and I watched part of a horror movie (halloween tradition).
