Travel Log: Day 140 (11/14), Guam
Today was the end of our first full week back to school after my mom left, so we resumed Field Trip Friday. We decided to go walk around the University of Guam.
The University and campus were really not what I was expecting. To start with there was ample parking which was a nice surprise over my university experience. At Colorado State University there was virtually no free parking to be had. After parking we walked directly onto campus and noticed a complete lack of people. For the first several minutes there was literally nobody in sight. We found this almost eerie since it’s a Friday and there should be classes going on.
We walked around the various department buildings such as business, engineering, english, health, etc. There were some people out but the campus was notably quiet. When we got to the library we went in and walked around. One of the staff members asked if we needed help and we talked to her for a while. She was very welcoming and offered a full tour, but we declined. She suggested we also go down the road to see the marine biology lab, but we ultimately didn’t do that.
I tried to put myself in the shoes of a student as we walked around, but I’m not sure my perspective is fair. I went to CSU where there are now 34K students compared to Guam’s 3K students. On the one hand you wouldn’t feel swallowed like you do at a large University, but on the other it seems like it might be lonely. It would certainly be peaceful and a great quiet learning environment. There was so much at CSU outside of the classroom though that made it feel vibrant.
Throughout the day I managed to get five rounds of workout in. In the afternoon JC and I went to the beach and then came back for normal FAC activities (drinks, dinner, movie, snacks). It was AC’s movie pick and she chose the original Karate Kid.
