Traveling Toward Fire

A Premature FI Experiment

About Us

We are a family of four living in the Denver suburbs on a premature FIRE journey that we are documenting in this blog. We live an outwardly unremarkable life, appearing to simply make ends meet. That outward appearance hides the true state of our finances, that we are approaching financial independence.

I (DC) have had an average to good tech career. My wife (JC) sacrificed career ambitions to raise our kids and be on point for everything in our life. To make that work financially required a lot of discipline and intentionality. That has really only been possible as the byproduct of a great marriage, and two people who are in lockstep together.

Kids

Our kids are finishing up the 5th grade (BC, boy) and 8th grade (AC, girl). Both are doing well in school and are low maintenance in other ways as well. They are doing their part to contribute to the simplicity of our life. Details of them in this blog will be light. I don’t feel they can truly consent to being included, even if I’m only using initials.

FIRE

We are pursuing the financial independence (FI) and the ability to retire early (RE), but we aren’t quite there yet. Of the various categories of FIRE, I would say we are most closely aligned to lean fire. One man’s lean fire is another’s regular FIRE though. We’re probably on the border of lean and regular. As of the start of this blog we have 22/25 FUs for our desired spending.

Our Route This Year

Our route started in Colorado USA, went south to Costa Rica, and on to the other destinations shown on this map.

Blog Content

This blog will likely end up looking a bit scattered; a continuous flowing mind dump capturing details of our FIRE journey, our international gap year, and the stitchings of life along the way. It will hang out in a dark corner of the web, grow in content as the events are captured, then die in that same dark corner.
