Travel Log: Day 139 (11/13), Guam
I was able to get some really good sleep last night, an 88 on my FitBit. During the day I also took a nap and slept hard for almost two hours. Hopefully that doesn’t jack up my sleep tonight. Since I missed out on seven hours round tripping to Colorado, I’m hopeful I will still sleep.
In and around school this morning I got some rounds of workout in, and spent the rest of the time researching our next location. We’re still leaning towards the Philippines, but a little cautious about typhoon impacts. After reviewing a dozen or so places we’re getting a good feel for the accommodations and cost. If we don’t go to the Philippines we would probably go straight to Vietnam. It has storm impacts as well though, and we’ll have to better understand them.
JC and I went to Donki to get some FAC drinks and movie snacks. While there I also looked for a pair of dumbbells. It’s getting frustrating to workout without any weight related exercise in my arsenal. Donki had 10kg dumbbells on sale for only $20. They only had a single 10kg dumbbell though, and their 5kg dumbbells cost $29 (regular price). I wasn’t willing to pay that, and 5kg is really too light. We stopped by K-Mart as well to see their weight selection. They had nothing, but I noticed big water jugs like those that go in a Culligan machine (see post main picture). I channeled my inner prisoner and bought two three gallon bottles ($24 total) to fill with water and use as my new weights.
I tested them out and they will work pretty well. Fully loaded with water they are around 26 pounds. That’s guessing the weight of the bottle itself is around a pound. The bottles have a handle which is great, but it works less perfectly than I thought. When you load these with three gallons of water and try to wield them, it’s difficult to keep the jug from spinning in your hand. I had to reduce the water to around two gallons so I could manage them better. That makes them ~18 lbs, an acceptable all-purpose weight. It gave me decent sets of curls and pullovers. I’m very excited about these because it adds a handful more exercises to my list.
We rounded out the day with JC making fajitas. It was a really delicious change of pace after eating airplane meals, Circle K, and free hotel snacks.
