This week felt pretty long, and covered a lot of ground. I started off the week a little sick (days 57-59), and saw my old coworkers around mid week (day 59). Later in the week between my fantasy league draft (day 61) and a neighbor’s birthday (day 62), I drank enough alcohol that my whole body including my eyeballs felt heavy.
FIRE: Day 57 (8/24)
The gym was really full today because the other facility in town that is part of the rec center is closed for the week. They gave everyone with a membership at that facility a pass to use the one I go to, and they enthusiastically used it. I would too if I were them, it’s a better gym.
For the tech portion of my day, I made two rounds of changes to yesalittle. I strengthened the Portuguese content by adding panic phrases and fixing some oddball phrase/response combos that didn’t sound right.
I started feeling run down in the afternoon. AC is sick so I may have caught something from her.
FIRE: Day 58 (8/25)
I didn’t do a lot today besides go to the gym. At some point I took a nap. I caught AC’s cold and I’m feeling run down.
FIRE: Day 59 (8/26)
Today I had lunch with my old coworkers. It was great to see them and it felt like no time had passed. I enjoyed catching up on what has been happening around the office, and the details on their AI transition. The AI shifts are happening fast which is both surprising and not. Surprising in the sense that a government contractor ordinarily does not implement changes quickly. Not surprising because this is AI which is moving fast.
It didn’t make me want to go back to work, but it also didn’t turn me off to it. Their new architect sounds like a real jerk to be around, and their manager is completely disengaged, so that’s a turnoff I guess.
In the afternoon I started looking at second car options. More than once I have avoided going on a day trip into the mountains because it would leave JC without a car. We’re considering getting a cheap backup option to avoid that hesitation.
FIRE: Day 60 (8/27)
After I got back from the gym, JC got a call from the school counselor. BC got into trouble, and this is a first for us. AC is 14 and BC is 11 and neither of them have been in trouble at school. The school, while they thought it was to be taken seriously, didn’t implement any punishment at all. We sort of wish they also did something, but we’ll handle it regardless.
When we heard BC’s side of the story, I switched from being mad at him to thinking he kind of got screwed. Basically a kid who is a known narc ratted him out for saying a single bad word. The lesson here for BC is equal parts don’t say bad words and avoid playing with kids like that.
FIRE: Day 61 (8/28)
Gym, Spanish, Tech
JC and I had happy hour before her and I both went to my fantasy draft for my neighborhood league. The night went pretty late for the three of us dudes who usually close it down. It turned into a rabbit hole of music videos and random discussions. I missed that sort of thing on gap year. JC left a little earlier in the night, and it was nice to have her there. I feel like people see me more favorably when she’s around.
FIRE: Day 62 (8/29)
I was moving pretty slow today after about six drinks/units last night and a ton of socializing. I always sleep badly after that. This morning I felt so heavy, and I kept finding myself wanting to veer diagonally a bit as I walked forward. I skipped my run which is very unusual.
As the day went on I felt better, and JC and I rallied back to drink again at a neighbor’s birthday party. It was a far more low key night, but I still managed to drink four units. My body was so tired that I still slept pretty decent and got a good sleep score.
FIRE: Day 63 (8/30)
I ran today and it went really well. Still gaining after getting back to regular runs here in CO. Surprisingly the alcohol from the past two nights didn’t ruin my run.
We decided on pizza for dinner, so I made pizza dough in the early afternoon. This set of yeast packets we have just aren’t great. It seems like there’s very little live yeast. The pizza was ok with kind of a flat crust.
JC and I went for a walk, and I binged a 3 part series on Netflix called The Pastor’s Wife.
